How to package the saddle
Good packaging doesn’t need to be excessive. However, you need to remember that delivery companies can throw boxes around. Please ensure that you have sufficiently protected the saddle, particularly the pommel, cantle, and sides that are touching the box. Some saddles can rattle around in larger boxes. On the other hand, small boxes mean the saddle is really compressed with possible leather damage and does not allow for any padding protection. The carton is the key! Heavy boxes can ship a couple times, flimsy boxes need replaced.
Good internal packaging consists of bubble wrap, airbags, shredded cardboard paper but NO PACKING PEANUTS. Remember someone will be opening your box in their home or workplace. The polystyrene balls/ packing peanuts, or loose fill chips ARE PROHIBITED. They fill the box out but offer little protection, and again will end up all over our office / kitchen floor. AVOID THEM.
Always:
- Put the saddle in a strong, sturdy, preferably new cardboard shipping box.
- Protect the pommel and cantle with bubble wrap, airbags, or other protective padding.
- Tape the box with WIDE tape on all seams.
- Tape the box well and ensure that the bottom will not fall through with the weight from the saddle.
Thank you for your adherence to these guidelines! It is greatly appreciated!
Saddle Consignment Policy
As we begin the process of marketing your saddle ('Consigned Property') which you are consigning with Flying Star Saddlery, we'd like to explain the details of preparing a used saddle for sale.
The first step is to fill in the two-page consignment agreement and return
This form is a 'fill-able pdf'. First, download the consignment form, then “fill in” all the pertinent information, type your name & initials for your signature, SAVE THE FILLED IN DOCUMENT and then return filled in PDF form ATTACHED TO AN EMAIL! Another method, if you prefer, is to download – fill in by hand – scan and return -or- image and return. Be sure to include your email address and the date!
If you have details about the saddle which will help shoppers learn about its merits and fitting points, please share these details under 'Features'.
The next step is to ship us your saddle (scroll up for shipping policies)
The saddle must be as clean as possible and leather conditioned. If your saddle needs cleaning and conditioning prior to imaging – the minimum charge is $20.00.
Flying Star will conduct market research on your saddle and present a “fair asking price” to you for approval. We strive to start with a median/high price point that will ideally garner immediate interest and sale. It is our experience that quality brands sell quickly. Flying Star sets no timetable for the sale of consigned property.
These steps are required for Flying Star Saddlery to begin the marketing process. If we have to clean/ condition your saddle to ensure maximum sale price the minimum charge is $20. Next a team member will photograph your saddle for use in marketing. These photos are then edited to ensure maximum detail. Our marketing team then posts your saddle in all applicable groups and sites.
At that point, we post your saddle in the Flying Star Saddlery online shop and then on eBay. In concert with these two actions, we post to the pertinent Facebook groups, (oftentimes 6 to 7 different saddle sales groups) where your consignment saddle enjoys over 80,000 member viewers.
At this juncture – the sale of your saddle depends greatly on finding the exact right horse and rider. Flying Star Saddlery – ALSO - promotes your saddle by physically taking it to every pertinent local fitting.
Patience is key with a used saddle sale, as the Flying Star mission is to find the perfect horse and rider for each saddle!
As your representative, Flying Star Saddlery will tender every offer and notify you accordingly. Please no phone calls or emails to “check-up” on your saddle. When your consigned saddle sells, Flying Star will issue a check for the sale price minus the 25% commission. A check will be mailed to you promptly after the sale.
Flying Star, LLC sets no timetable on the sale of your consigned property but guarantees your saddles' maintenance and marketing for the duration.
Thank you for trusting Flying Star Saddlery with your consignment saddle!
